blues diva and blues/soul keyboard innovator
Kathi McDonald & Brian Auger & Friends
Kathi McDonald's soulful, passionate vocals combined with her legendary phrasing, impeccable timing and intonation have been an integral part of dozens of hit records since the 1970s. From her three-year stint as an Ikette with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue and her tenure with Big Brother & the Holding Company to the Muscle Shoals recordings of Leon Russell, the Rolling Stone's Exile on Main Street, and her recent years with Long John Baldry, Kathi has been part of music history. Now living in Seattle, Kathi's newly released album, Above and Beyond (Merrimack), reflects the breadth and depth of her musical experience. Moving with ease and confidence through blues, soul, gospel, and country, Kathi brings the past into a vivid, emotion-packed present. Joining Kathi on piano is British art-rock and blues legend, Brian Auger. Best known in this country for his band Trinity, which featured vocalist Julie Driscoll, Brian has been a leading keyboard innovator for more than three decades. Also on hand are Brian's son Karma, on drums and Rich Dangel on guitar.
